A precocious girl with a camera offers a shy writer an excuse to leave a party in his own house and they retreat to his writing sanctuary: the basement. The two get locked down there, and in order to pass the time while they wait for rescue, she convinces him to write her a story. Stuck for inspiration, he begins to tell the story of a shy writer who gets locked in the basement during a party. She suggests he shouldn’t be alone, so he adds a precocious girl with a camera, and soon the story begins to fold in on itself, as the two fictional characters, bored, entertain themselves with the story of a man with a typewriter and a girl with a camera locked together in the basement, trying to pass the time.
